The Four Seasons around the Globe
A personal and unusual take on this familiar theme. Each season is represented by a composer from a different country to create a particularly colorful and virtuosic mix. Piazzolla's temperamental and sturdy Autumn in Buenos Aires is followed by Ysaÿe's Poignant Chant d'hiver ('A winter song'), a work which remains heartfelt while exploiting countless possibilities in writing for the violin. Vivaldi's joyous and ever popular Spring from The Four Seasons takes our journey to Italy, while Rodrigo's Concierto de Estio ('Summer Concerto'), a real Tour-de-force of virtuoso writing for the violin, which has been unjustly neglected in my opinion, brings the program to a fiery Spanish close.
